HUGE NAMES ADDED TO ROYAL RUMBLE MATCH
The 2017 Royal Rumble is set to be one of the biggest Rumble’s in the history of WWE, with the company hoping to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of The Royal Rumble in style.
WWE have also announced that John Cena will take on WWE Champion AJ Styles at the event and Kevin Owens will defend his Universal Championship against Roman Reigns with Chris Jericho hanging above the ring in a shark cage.
The big news going into the event in less than four weeks time is that Brock Lesnar and Goldberg have already been announced as participants in the Royal Rumble match.
As well as these two, The New Day members Kofi Kingston, Big E and Xavier Woods have also booked their place in the match that sees the winner given the opportunity to main event WrestleMania 33.
Unsurprisingly, Braun Strowman has been added to the match this past week, and it is hard to look past the unpinned beast. Strowman is yet to be defeated in singles competition since arriving in WWE, so it will be interesting to see how the rest of the WWE locker room react to the threat that he possesses.
Speculation suggests that Braun is set to face Roman Reigns for the United States Championship at WrestleMania, so it is unlikely that he will be winning the history-making Royal Rumble match.
Chris Jericho is another name that has already been announced ahead of the event on January 29th in San Antonio Texas, the former undisputed Champion doesn’t have another match at the event, but he will play a part in the Universal Championship match between Owens and Reigns since he will be hanging above the ring.
The current speculation suggests that The Undertaker or Goldberg could be the main contenders going into the Rumble with many of the WWE Universe of the impression that The Undertaker could be set for one final title match and it could well be John Cena vs The Deadman with both the WWE Championship and Taker’s career on the line.
This would add something extra to the match, and it would make much more sense than if Goldberg was to win since he is rumoured to be heading into a match with Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania in April.
Another match that has also been added to the card from Monday night Raw is the Women’s Championship match between Bayley and Charlotte. It was shown before the match between Bayley and Nia Jax that Stephanie McMahon doesn’t like the huggable superstar. She stated that it was Mick Foley that decided to bring her over to Raw and that she doesn’t think she offers anything different to the roster.
Bayley obviously went on to defeat Nia Jax, the first person in WWE to do so, in order to book her place in that match against Charlotte Flair at The Royal Rumble. It wasn’t an easy match for Bayley by and stretch of the imagination, but she proved her doubters wrong, that’s for sure.
Moving forward it is said that WWE are hoping to turn the Bayley situation into another Daniel Bryan storyline with Stephanie constantly telling her that she isn’t good enough and it is thought that she will fail to lift the title at her first attempt in four weeks time, but she will end up winning the Championship presumably at WrestleMania when Charlotte puts her undefeated pay-per-view record on the line as well as her title.
It seems that WWE is making sure that the Women’s Division also has a worthy storyline heading into WrestleMania season, it has a lot to compete with since last year saw an incredible triple threat match and the unveiling of the new WWE Women’s Championship.
It looks set to be a history making night in San Antonio already and with the likes of The Undertaker and Shawn Michaels, both natives of Texas, appearing on Monday Night Raw next week, it seems that the build up could reach an intense level as many more names are unveiled and the WWE Universe finally finds out if HBK and The Deadman will be inserting themselves into the historic match, or if they are going to be watching on from ringside.
