New United States Champion Crowned on Monday Night RAW
The handicap match for the United States Championship between Chris Jericho, Kevin Owens and Roman Reigns was announced ahead of last night’s episode of Monday Night Raw and it turns out it was one of the best parts of the show.
Many fans predicted that Roman would once again retain his Championship before he headed into The Royal Rumble to face Kevin Owens for the Universal Championship, but in one of the most shocking moments of the night, Jericho pinned Reigns to lift The United States Championship.
WWE actually managed to book this match very well, because Roman had already been beaten down by Owens, Jericho and Braun Strowman earlier in the night, and declared that he wasn’t 100 percent, he then put up a very good fight against the duo who have been dubbed Jeri-KO, which means that this loss doesn’t actually make him look weak ahead of his Championship match.
Reigns would have become a dual champion at The Royal Rumble if he had kept hold of the Championship, but it seems that WWE has something much bigger in mind for Reigns.
Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns are back on the same page now and Rollins saved Roman from the beat down when Strowman joined in with Owens and Jericho at the beginning of the night, this means that even though Rollins saved Roman from a showdown with The Monster Among Men this week, Strowman will be looking for him next week.
Roman and Goldberg double speared Strowman last week on Raw and since Goldberg wasn’t in New Orleans this week, Roman was the only person Strowman could go after. It is thought that there will be something between Roman and Braun down the line, but right now Roman needs to focus on his match with Kevin Owens at The Rumble.
Strowman will also get his revenge on Goldberg inside the Royal Rumble match, which has also seen two more men announce their places, last night Seth Rollins declared that he would not only enter the Rumble, but he would win the match and main event WrestleMania, much like he should have last year, if not for injury.
In another shocking moment last night, The Undertaker appeared on Raw despite being a SmackDown superstar and declared that he would also be in The Rumble match. It is thought that he will now go on to win the match and then face John Cena in the main event of WrestleMania after Cena makes history makes history by defeating AJ Styles at the same event on January 29th.
It is all heating up on the Road to WrestleMania, and it seems that it is only going to get much more heated as we head into WrestleMania season. Jericho winning the United Sates Championship now makes both him and Owens joint Champions and it shows that this current run in WWE for Jericho has been one of his best.
It is believed that Jericho and Owens are set to collide one-on-one at WrestleMania, which means the demise of the two friends could well happen anytime soon. There is a lot building in WWE right now and a title change less than three weeks before The Royal Rumble was a big shock for the WWE Universe.
It will make for interesting TV over the next few months thought if after The Rumble it is Jericho that has the Championship and not Owens. Over the past few months, Owens has been the one who has been on top in the group, and it could affect their friendship if Jericho becomes the one who is the champion.
As already stated, this doesn’t effect Reigns’ credibility heading into the Rumble, but recent rumours suggest that because of the negative fan reaction that the former Shield member has been receiving from the WWE Universe, WWE could decide to change some of the plans they have for him, because they don’t want a repeat of the 2015 Royal Rumble, where the fans booed him out of the building.
WWE are looking over their shoulders at other promotions right now after the epic Wrestle Kingdom 11 last week, and they will want to top anything they can do when it comes to their biggest event of the year in April.
