Sasha Banks and Charlotte Step in to Main Event at WWE Hell In a Cell
Sasha Banks and Charlotte are set to make history at Hell in a Cell on Sunday night in Sasha’s hometown of Boston Massachusetts when they become the first female wrestlers to step inside the Hell in a Cell structure.
The Raw Women’s Championship will also be on the line for the first time at a pay-per-view with someone other than Charlotte defending the Championship. It has also been rumored that the two former NXT Women’s Champions could be set to main even the Pay-per-view as well.
This would mean that the women would be above all male matches on the card for the first time in WWE history. The females have main evented many NXT:Takeover events but they have never been given the opportunity to main event a WWE pay-per-view.
Charlotte is currently undefeated at WWE pay-per-views since she was promoted to the main roster back in the Summer of 2015, so it will be interesting to see if her winning streak will come to an end at the hands of Sasha in her hometown.
Many fans including former WWE personality Eric Bishoff have voiced their concerns about the fact that the women’s Hell in a Cell match may fail to live up to all of the hype that WWE has already begun giving it. That being said, there have already been reports that Charlotte was set to perform a corkscrew moonsault off the top of Hell in a Cell but Vince McMahon himself had to decline her idea.
This goes to show that the women are already thinking outside the box when it comes to their match and this is what fans are already looking forward to. Sasha has made history before, when she faced Bayley in the first ever Ironwoman match back at NXT Takeover: Respect in 2015 so it is thought that she will just take this in her stride, and given Charlotte’s pedigree, she should also be able to step up her game.
Whilst the match itself has been received by the fans with a lot of negativity, it could be one of the bets matches on the card and it is thought to be the most anticipated match at the entire event. When the card consists of mostly rematches from Clash of Champions, it will be interesting to see if WWE do have these two women main event the show on Sunday night.
The show is set to have a triple main event with the likes of Roman Reigns and Rusev colliding with the United States Championship on the line, also inside Hell in a Cell and Kevin Owens defends his Universal Championship against Seth Rollins inside the steel structure as well.
Whilst WWE has already stated that it will be a triple main event, it will be a case of waiting until the event itself to see which match actually goes on last on the night, especially with rumors of Triple H’s return still circulating around Social Media.
The Cruiserweight Championship will also be on the line on Sunday night as Tj Perkins defends against Brian Kendrick for the second time in recent weeks and The New Day will defend their Tag Team Championships against Cesaro and Sheamus in what could well be one of the shocks of the night.
Add to this the match between Enzo and Cass and Anderson and Gallows which would well decide who will be going towards the Tag Team Championships in the near future. There are still many other matches that could be set up in the build up to the Hell in a Cell event on Sunday as well which would make it even more interesting if these women are allowed to main event.
Sasha and Charlotte delivered an emotional and intriguing promo with Mick Foley this past week on Monday Night Raw and showed that they are already aware of what it is to step inside Hell in a Cell. There is a reason it is referred to as Satan’s Structure and there is a reason why superstars don’t walk out of the Cell the same way they walked in. These women will have their eyes opened on Sunday night and whilst it will be a history making venture for both women, there will be even more than that on the line, because these two women have ensured that their feud has become very personal.
